I do not know the specifics behind why these government workers in Korea were fired, but I am against public sector unions with collective bargaining if that is what this union is trying to do in Korea: The President of the Korean Government Employees’ Union (KGEU), Kim Jungnam, launched a hunger strike in the streets of Seoul outside the offices of the Presidential transition committee on 15 January. He is protesting the sacking of 137 workers, among them the union president and general secretary, who are being punished for their

This is what many government civilians working for the Army are facing due to the current fiscal budget mess the nation faces: The Army is allowing only limited exceptions to its hiring freeze now underway, while few current employees would escape unpaid furloughs if sequestration hits. The military services recently announced an immediate hiring freeze and outlined the potential for furloughs and other steps that might be needed if they must absorb automatic cuts of up to around 10 percent in many of their programs starting in early March. Here is a good graphic from Yonhap News that shows the various key players in the North Korean government: The biggest thing to notice is how old most of them are which leads me to believe that regime change is going to come to North Korea simply from these guys dying off in the next 10-20 years combined with a robust information campaign directed at the North Korean people that would ultimately pressure the new regime leadership to change.

This has been something that has been about as long overdue as moving Yongsan Garrison to an area south of Seoul: The government says that 16 organizations of the central government and 20 government affiliated offices will be relocated to Sejong City, Chungcheong Province in three phases starting September next year. The government on Friday held a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Kim Hwang-sik and finalized the relocation schedule. Under the three-stage relocation plan, six ministries and six affiliated organizations will move to the city by the end of next

South Korean Prime Minister Resigns Over Fight to Move Capital South of Seoul
July 31st, 2010 at 9:48 am » Comments (3)
I have always thought it makes sense from a national security perspective for the South Korean government to move key military and government installations further south and its too bad it will probably never happen due to political bickering: South Korea’s prime minister offered to resign Thursday after parliament shot down his efforts to scrap a plan that would relocate several government ministries out of the capital. Chung Un-chan, an academic appointed in September, has led the charge to abandon the project, thought up by the previous liberal administration. President
