2011 Statistics of US Military Traffic Related Crime In South Korea

March 14th, 2013 at 6:32 pm » Comments (11)

Earlier this week I posted the 2011 statistics for ROK criminal prosecutions of US military servicemembers serving in South Korea.  After compiling the statistics it was pretty clear that a major reason the USFK crime rate has increased in recent years is because of the change in the USFK driving policy back in 2008.  This change allowed more servicemember drivers on the Korean roads which statistically means more opportunities for accidents and other infractions to occur that will be added to the crime rate.  Here is a consolidated list of

Picture of the Day: Wheel Lock Warning at Yongsan

This is a picture I got to day from a ROK Head who witnessed the MPs at Yongsan actually using a wheel lock on a USFK employee’s vehicle for illegal parking.  Personally I like the Korean method of dealing with illegal parking at apartment complexes which is they put that huge sticker on the driver’s side window that is very difficult to take off.  I wish the Korean police would do that to all the illegal parking on the roads.  They wouldn’t even need to give out tickets, just put

Are Koreans Really the World’s Worst Drivers?

February 17th, 2013 at 6:33 pm » Comments (61)

I wonder if the Seoul government could impound these cars until they pay the parking fees?: Nearly 90 percent of traffic fines imposed on foreign diplomats in South Korea over the past five years have gone unpaid, Yonhap News Agency reported, quoting a police report Tuesday. According to the National Police Agency’s report submitted to the National Assembly, a total of 847 speeding tickets and fines amounting to some 57.5 million won ($49,000) were slapped on diplomatic vehicles here. However, 87.6 percent, or 50.4 million won, in fines have yet

All of you hitting the road this weekend, beware: Those leaving Seoul for their provincial home over the lunar New Year would be wise to avoid 6 a.m. to noon on Sunday, the day before the new moon. On the way back, the traffic will be worst between noon and 6 p.m. on New Year’s Day. The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs on Thursday said an average of 3.4 million cars per day will use expressways between Jan. 23 and 28, 3.76 million of them on New Year’s
