Seoul City Official Complains About Yongsan Garrison Relocation Plan

April 27th, 2013 at 6:46 pm » Comments (38)

I do not know why these officials are complaining when plans to leave the Dragon Hill Lodge, the helicopter landing pad, and a new US embassy annex have long been agreed upon: – Somebody at Seoul City Hall is bitching about the fact that USFK is keeping some facilities—including a helipad, the Dragon Hill Hotel and the US embassy– in Yongsan even after the move to Pyeongtaek. In particular, the official told New1 that rather than restitution Yongsan residents for the losses they’ve suffered from decades of US troops being

US Soldier Shot In Seoul After Car Chase with Korean Police

March 3rd, 2013 at 8:18 am » Comments (90)

UPDATE:  Video of the incident is beginning to come out which can be seen on this MBC report uploaded on YouTube: Also I recommend going over to the Marmot’s Hole which also has a lot of information posted on this story.  It is still unclear what these idiots were doing with the pellet guns, but it is basically irrelevant because they should have stopped when confronted by the police.  If they would stopped they would have had their ass chewed by their leadership and this whole incident would just have

Picture of the Day: Wheel Lock Warning at Yongsan

February 23rd, 2013 at 1:44 pm » Comments (20)

This is a picture I got to day from a ROK Head who witnessed the MPs at Yongsan actually using a wheel lock on a USFK employee’s vehicle for illegal parking.  Personally I like the Korean method of dealing with illegal parking at apartment complexes which is they put that huge sticker on the driver’s side window that is very difficult to take off.  I wish the Korean police would do that to all the illegal parking on the roads.  They wouldn’t even need to give out tickets, just put

You know it is election season when the Korean left has pull out this issue once again about the big, bad US-ROK SOFA: Underground water near the U.S. military’s Camp Kim in Seoul has been found to be contaminated with harmful components of crude oil, data from the Seoul city government showed Tuesday. Samples of ground water gathered from March-November 2011 from outer regions of Camp Kim, located adjacent to Yongsan Garrison in Seoul, had total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) levels as high as 1,436.8 milligram per liter, about 958 times

Picture of the Day: The End of the Yongsan Red Light District

Via a reader tip comes this photo of how the Yongsan Red Light District has finally been leveled for future development.  It really was only a matter of time before this happened considering all the new development around the Yongsan Red Light District.  The prostitutes that worked here were not happy to see the place leveled and the sign hanging in the picture says “Here is the tomb of the squatters who have no place to go”. I can remember mistakenly walking through this Red Light District when walking from

Hannam Village Garbage Piles Up as USFK Servicemembers Refuse to Follow Korean Recycling Laws

September 21st, 2010 at 11:58 pm » Comments (56)

It is an absolute disgrace that USFK servicemembers will not follow local Korean laws in regards to recycling to where something like this happens: Mountains of uncollected trash at Hannam Village and residents who won’t recycle pushed the military last week to pick up the garbage itself at the 512-unit housing complex in central Seoul, according to military officials. South Korean garbage collectors began refusing about two weeks ago to pick up trash not placed in specially marked biodegradable bags mandated by law. “They’re just following established city code for

So did anyone experience these rains?  Was it as bad as claimed? A freakish thunderstorm Tuesday dumped almost 10 inches of rain on Seoul, causing flash floods that partially submerged cars and closed roads at U.S. Army Garrison-Yongsan. Garrison spokesman Dan Thompson said the heavy rains and flooding caused “moderate” damage, including some to cars and buildings. No injuries were reported. Officials were still assessing the damage as of Tuesday evening, though the rains had stopped and much of the flooding at Yongsan had subsided. Power had been restored to

It looks like the Stars & Stripes publicity of the poor condition of the Seoul American Middle School had the positive effect of getting needed renovations for the school: Problems with rats, mold and cold at Seoul American Middle School will be tackled this summer in a $600,000 renovation project. The Department of Defense Dependents Schools—Pacific announced Thursday that workers will make improvements to buildings 3560 through 3565, six structures commonly referred to as the “huts,” which were built in 1970 and “are overdue for both interior and exterior repairs.”
